At Amerident Dental, we perform a complete and thorough oral exam during your initial visit which will also include the following:
Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss. X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions. We use digital x-rays to reduce radiation by up to 90% and allow instant imaging on the computer screen in your treatment room.
Oral cancer screening: We examine your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
Gum disease evaluation: We check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease. Up to 70% of people have some signs of periodontal disease, which can be easily treated if caught in the early stages.
Examination of tooth decay: We use special dental instruments to check all tooth surfaces for decay.
Examination of existing restorations: We examine the condition of existing fillings, crowns, etc.
If your dentist notes any areas of concern he will discuss it with you. Digital photographs of your teeth and mouth allow you to see exactly what your dentist sees. Any treatment that your dentist recommends will be discussed and given to you in a written treatment plan.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about oral exams or to schedule an oral health consultation with one of our doctors.
