Chemical May be Possible Health Risk

You may have read or heard in the news lately that a chemical found in many hard plastics, such as water bottles, baby bottles and hundreds of household goods, may be potentially harmful.  The chemical, Bisphenol A (BPA), is also found in many dental sealant materials.  Sealants are often recommended for application to molar teeth to help prevent cavities in children and adults who are at risk for tooth decay.

At Amerident, we have been using Embrace® brand Pit and Fissure Sealant for the past year.  In a recent press release from the manufacturer they state that Embrace® is the only leading pit and fissure sealant that contains no BPA or BPA derivatives.

If you have any further questions about dental sealants or sealant materials please ask your dentist or hygienist at your next visit.

Health Reminder

If you or one of your family members is a denture-wearer (upper and lower), we want to remind you that it’s still important to have an annual oral health exam, including a free oral cancer screening.  Many of our denture patients “disappear” after receiving their false teeth thinking they’ll never need a dentist again.  But maintaining gum health is still important.

During your annual exam our dentists examine the gums, tongue and entire oral cavity for signs of problems that may not be apparent when you look at yourself in the bathroom mirror.  They’ll also check your denture for fit and comfort, and look for signs of wear.  If you have questions or concerns about dry mouth or bad breath, your dentist can help you find solutions.  Then, if your denture is intact and in good shape, we’ll give it a free ultrasonic cleaning while you wait.

An annual oral health exam and cancer screening can give you peace of mind.  Instead of “disappearing”, call us to make an appointment today!

Amerident Receives 2008 Best of Amherst Award

WASHINGTON D.C., July 8, 2008 -- Amerident has been selected for the 2008 Best of Amherst Award in the Dentists category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA).

The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2008 USLBA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.

About U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA)

U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA) is a Washington D.C. based organization funded by local businesses operating in towns, large and small, across America. The purpose of USLBA is to promote local business through public relations, marketing and advertising.

Their mission is to be an advocate for small and medium size businesses and business entrepreneurs across America.

Higher Education

For three days in January we all had the great opportunity to attend workshops and seminars in Boston at the annual Yankee Dental Congress. We heard nationally-known speakers, participated in hand-on courses and looked at new equipment, materials and supplies from over 300 vendors.  Some of the topics our dentists and team members learned about include:
• handling medical emergencies in the office
• the importance of “baby teeth” and parent education
• women’s health
• dental implants
• communication skills
• clinical photography
• custom direct composites

We’ve been sharing new knowledge with each other as “Best of Yankee” presentations during lunches for the past two months.

Invisalign Orthodontics

Dr. Kinjawi has been offering patients at Amerident straighter, healthier teeth using Invisalign clear aligner orthodontics since 2006.  Now Dr. Nalla and Dr. Patel are trained and certified in Invisalign treatment as well. Our patients who have completed treatment have been amazed at the new smiles they now have!

Three main benefits of Invisalign treatment are:
1. Clear, invisible aligners straighten your teeth – no wires and brackets,
2. You’ll have a shorter more comfortable treatment time,
3. Aligners can be removed when you eat, brush and floss.

Want to see if you’re a candidate for Invisalign?  Give us a call (672-6546); or email us at info@ameridentnh.com.

Scholarships

The New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH has a wonderful program educating future Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants.  The school fulfills a great need for skilled and educated dental care workers – you’ll find NHTI graduates working in dental practices throughout the state (we have several at Amerident!).  We are proud to continue our NHTI scholarship program for the 15th year by offering a $1000 scholarship to a hygiene student and $500 to a student in the dental assisting program.  It’s another way that Amerident contributes to the future good oral health of New Hampshire residents.

What’s in a Name?

You may start noticing this month that our name has been slightly modified.  We’re now Amerident Dental Associates.  As a large group practice with both general dentists and specialists our new name better represents us now and as we move forward.  You’ll also notice a new logo – one that all of our employees have had a say in developing.  You’ll see the results of their work at the top of this newsletter.

Oral Sedation Dentistry Comes to Amerident

Nearly 30% of the population is afraid of the dentist.  Additional studies have shown that up to 75% adults in the U.S. experience some degree of dental fear.  This means that millions of patients across the nation are searching for a way to have their dentistry completed without the anxiety and fear that often accompanies a trip to the dentist.

At Amerident Dental Associates we’ve been providing anxiety-free dental care using IV sedation since 2007.  And now we’re excited to offer oral sedation dentistry as another safe and effective option for people with dental fear.  Nationwide, over one million people have conquered that same fear using oral sedation dentistry.  It’s not just a trend.  It’s a new level of dental care.

How Does it Work?

The process for patients is simple:

• We review your medical history
• The appropriate sedation medication is chosen
• You’ll likely take a single pill before arriving for your appointment
• Your companion will drive you to the office
• More medication may be given depending on the length of your appointment
• Your companion will drive you home and stay with you until fully recovered (4-10 hours)

Benefits of sedation dentistry include:

• Little to no memory of your time in the dental chair
• Less post-operative pain and less general discomfort

Sedation dentistry not only creates a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for you, it also allows your dentist to accomplish more dentistry in a single visit—meaning you’ll return fewer times to complete your treatment.  Because Amerident is a multispecialty practice, patients can have complete treatment plans done in our office from start to finish.  Root canals, crowns, implants, and periodontal (gum) work can be done safely under sedation.

Advanced Sedation Training

Our dentists have completed a comprehensive and rigorous training program in oral sedation dentistry through the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS).  And Amerident Dental Associates continues to be the only New Hampshire dental practice with membership in the Sedation Dentistry Network.

If you or some one you know has delayed treating oral pain or infection, now is the time to take advantage of the many benefits of sedation dentistry.  For a single filling or restoring your entire mouth, sedation dentistry can help you achieve optimum dental health in the most comfortable way possible.

Call us at (603) 672-6546 or email info@ameridentNH.com to talk to us further about your options for sedation dentistry.

July 2009

Recognizing the increasing needs of the underserved in our local communities, this month Amerident contributed $2,500 to The Greater Nashua Dental Connection, Inc.  The non-profit dental clinic, located at 31 Cross Street in Nashua, is meeting a huge need for providing access to dental care for children and adults in our community.  The donation will go towards continuing the school program for children’s dental care.

October 2009

Many of us at Amerident have family members, friends and associates whose lives have been changed forever by a diagnosis of cancer.  In their support, Amerident Dental Associates organized a team to participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a fundraising event sponsored by the American Cancer Society every October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month).  This year the Walk was held on Sunday, October 18th in Nashua, NH.

Thanks to the generous support of many donors, we exceeded our goal of raising $2000 to benefit the American Cancer Society in “Making Strides"!!  In high spirits and despite a continuous cold, drizzling rain, our small but intrepid group of team walkers completed the entire 3.5 mile course (no shortcuts) - wet but still smiling.

Giving Back

For the fifth year our team at Amerident has adopted a SHARE family for Christmas.  Each year employees have fun purchasing special gifts for the members of one or two families who otherwise might not have enjoyed presents under the tree.  The practice also donated $1000 in gift cards from Shaw’s to SHARE so that food baskets and dinner tables could be a little more bountiful for the holidays.  Employees also continue to support the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter with food, cash donations and necessities.

Certification Awarded

Kate has now achieved her goal of becoming a Certified Dental Assistant.  Applicants are tested for knowledge in five areas of expertise, have attained and demonstrated certain levels of skill as well as meet a requirement of two years experience.  Kate took the test two years and six weeks after starting here (there’s no moss under her feet!).  We’re so proud of you!
